Summer is approaching. We all want to be outside more. We all want to savor the season we’re in.

We as moms of toddlers want our kids to do that too. We want them to get outside, be active, and stay challenged.

However, it can be hard to know how to keep them busy.

Today I want to try to help.

I want to share with you 25 Summer Bucket List Ideas to do with your toddler. Let these serve as inspiration for you to get outdoors, enjoy the season, and build memories with your child.

So let’s dive in.

Summer Bucket List Ideas

1. Beach Day

If there is a beach near you, plan a day or morning out! Put on your swimsuits, pack lots of snacks and drinks, and go get sandy! Your kids will love it, and it will be a refreshing, energy-burning activity for all of you.

2. Library

There is something about a library in the summer. They often have summer reading plans or activities, but even simply getting books out is a great way to beat the heat and have a free summer activity with your toddler.

3. Playdough

Buy it, or make your own. Playdough is a great toy that can keep kids entertained for a long time. When it’s too hot to go outside or if your child needs some wind-down time, break out the playdough, and let them have fun.

4. Hose in the Backyard

Pull out the hose. Turn on the water, and let your child cool off to their heart’s content!

5. Sidewalk Chalk

Marvel at your toddler’s creativity with sidewalk chalk. Colorful, open-ended, and a great reason to get outdoors, sidewalk chalk is a blast.

6. Playground

A good, old-fashioned playground provides loads of entertainment. If you don’t have your own, walk or drive to a nearby park. Perhaps meet up with another family, and let your kids enjoy the slides and swings.

7. Water Table

Another great way to stay cool, a water table is a fantastic option especially for younger toddlers. They can stand, play, and get wet, keeping themselves cool and occupied on these summer days.

8. Long Walk

Weather permitting, why not strap your baby in the stroller or carrier and let your toddler walk along beside? Get moving. Get walking, and enjoy the lovely season. You may just spot something you’ve never seen before.

9. Strider Bike

These bikes are fantastic for toddlers just learning to ride. They don’t have pedals, so toddlers can literally “stride” along, pushing themselves with their feet and practicing their balancing skills. They will love being able to move quicker and gain a sense of independence.

10. Blow Bubbles

Who doesn’t love blowing bubbles? Blowing bubbles is a simple, quiet activity to do outside with your toddler, and they can either watch you do so or learn to blow them themselves.

11. Picnic with Friends

Make sandwiches, reach out to some friends, and go eat somewhere in nature. They say food tastes better outside, right? I think your toddler will agree!

12. Wiener Roast

Speaking of eating outside, why not have a wiener roast? Ask another family over, and roast some hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire.

13. Local Farm

Visiting local farms, hitting up farm stands, or exploring the farmers’ market are fun summer activities that cost almost nothing. You can get some fresh veggies, pet a sheep, and perhaps even watch the corn grow.

14. Smoothies Outside

Fresh, healthy, sweet, and cold, smoothies are a delicious summer treat. Plunk down with your toddler on the porch or at a picnic table with some tasty drinks, and you’ve got one happy camper.

15. Build Forts

What kid doesn’t love building a fort? Outside or inside, building forts can be a really fun, creative activity.

16. Swimming

Take your toddler to the pool. They can burn energy and learn swimming skills along the way.

17. Sandbox

If you have a sandbox, take advantage of it! Or, find a park, farm, or friend’s house where your toddler can enjoy one.

18. Splash Park

Get wet. Stay cool, and have so much fun at a splash park! Pack a lunch. Invite a friend, and stay a while!

19. Make Popsicles

Popsicles are nostalgic, don’t you think? Indeed what is more summery than a popsicle?

20. Soccer

Kick a soccer ball around with your toddler. Practice passes and shots. They will love it!

21. Wagon Rides

If you own a little wagon, use it! Pull your toddler, or let them pull it themselves. They can use it to collect treasures, explore, or take a little rest inside.

22. Trampoline

Do you own a trampoline? Now’s the time to use it! If you have a friend with one, give it a try. Of course, you know what your child is old enough for. Just make sure the proper safety precautions are in place, and then have fun!

23. Lemonade Stand

If you have an older toddler, perhaps they would enjoy setting up a lemonade stand. Keep it simple, and watch their confidence grow.

24. Quad Rides

Toddlers love quad rides. There’s something about going fast that is really thrilling. But again, take the proper safety measures as well.

25. Frisbee

If your child is interested, why not introduce a frisbee? They will love the chance to throw it and try their hand at such a game.

I hope this list was helpful to you. I hope it sparked some of your own ideas for what to do this summer. Savor this precious time with your toddler. Make memories, and enjoy this warm, beautiful season together.
