Are you struggling, Mama?
Do you keep giving into temptation? Do you feel spiritually dry in your devotions? Do you lack joy in motherhood? Are you needing wisdom for a big decision?
We all go through hard seasons of life. We battle sins, wrestle fears, and experience sorrows. We feel anxious, bitter, and overwhelmed. We want to feel good again, and yet we doubt if that’s possible. We want to have wisdom, joy, and strength, but instead we can barely pull ourselves off the couch and give of ourselves to those we love.
We ask, “What’s wrong with me? What do I need? What’s the problem here? Surely there’s a magic formula to make everything right again. Surely I’m failing as a wife and mom. Surely I’m a hopeless cause.”
Can you relate?
If so, I want to share with you some hope. I want to tell you the truth, and it really can set you free.
Are you ready?

What Moms Really Need
Anxious mama, here’s the truth.
You need God’s Word. You need your Bible.
I do too.
God’s Word is our path to joy, peace, and renewal. The things we crave are found in the Lord, and He uses His Word to help His children.
Now perhaps you have some baggage with the Bible. Perhaps you’ve failed one too many read-the-Bible-in-a-year plans. Maybe you’ve wrestled with what the Bible says on certain topics. Or sadly, you might have seen the Bible twisted and used to abuse.
If so, please keep reading.

Baggage with the Bible
1. You’ve tried reading the Bible and stopped.
If you have tried to read the Bible in a year and failed, remember three things:
- Know that it wasn’t a failure. You still read something!
- Everyone struggles to read the Bible sometimes. The enemy of our souls doesn’t want us to know the truth. He wants us distracted and deceived. Don’t stop pursuing it.
- Today is a new day. Today you can choose to be in God’s Word. Even 5 minutes or one verse is better than none at all. Be in God’s Word today.
2. You don’t always like what the Bible says.
If you have wrestled with what the Bible says about certain things, know that you’re not alone. There are topics covered in the Bible that are not easy to accept or always understand. But you know what? We have a God who loves us, a God who know all things and knows best, and a God who is gracious to hear your doubts and fears. Go to Him with your questions.
3. You’ve seen the Bible twisted to abuse.
Have you seen the Bible twisted and abused? Have you been hurt by others in the name of Scripture? I’m sorry, friend. God knows your hurts, and He is near. My prayer is that He redeems your view of Scripture and your view of Him. I pray you actually find healing and comfort within God’s Word and come to know and love the truth.
Why do Moms need their Bibles?
So why do Moms need their Bibles? The list of answers could be endless, but I want to share with you 9 reasons based on Psalm 19:7-11.
Why do moms need their Bibles?
Let’s dive in.
1. It renews our spiritual lives.
The law of the LORD is perfect, reviving the soul (Ps. 19:7a).
God’s Word renews our spiritual lives. When we are feeling dry on the inside, we need to fill our minds with God’s Word and meditate on it. The Bible is like water, and as we meditate on it, our thirst is quenched. We feel like new life has been breathed into us.
2. It makes us wise.
[T]he testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple (Ps. 19:7b).
The Bible makes us wise. It is God’s, the Giver of wisdom’s, Word to us. When we read and internalize His truth, we are better equipped to navigate life’s ups and downs. The Holy Spirit brings to our remembrance the things Jesus said (Jn. 14:26). God guides us with His Word.
3. It gives us joy.
[T]he precepts of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart (Ps. 19:8a).
God’s Word gives us joy. It tells us over and over again about what Christ has done for us. It proclaims our salvation by showing us our need for Jesus and announcing what He did to rescue. Our salvation is all because of Christ, and God’s Word is all about Christ. No wonder it brings us joy (Ps. 51:12).
4. It enlightens the eyes.
[T]he commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes (Ps. 19:8b).
The Bible guides us and opens our eyes to what we may not have seen before. We see sin to be detestable, our need to be great, and Jesus to be our Redeemer. We see that this world is not our true home, and that one day, God will make everything right.

5. It’s clean and enduring.
[T]he fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever (Ps. 19:9a).
In a world that is saturated with sin, fearing God (i.e. following His Word) is clean. In a world that is decaying and broken, obeying Him is lasting and secure. Walking with Jesus is pure. Knowing Him is forever.
6. It’s true and totally righteous.
[T]he rules of the LORD are true, and righteous altogether” (Ps. 19:9b).
God’s Word is true. It tells us what really is. His rules are completely righteous. They reflect who HE is.
7. It’s desirable and sweet.
More to be desired are they than gold, even much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and drippings of the honeycomb (Ps. 19:10).
God’s Word is desirable like gold and sweet like honey (Psalm 19:10). It is good, pleasurable, and valuable. It is far greater riches and far more satisfying than any earthly thing. Do you find it to be so? If not, ask God for His perspective.
8. It warns.
Moreover, by them is your servant warned (Ps. 19:11a).
God’s Word tells us the truth, and because of that, it not only tells us what is good and lovely but also what leads to death. It warns us of sin and alerts us to the danger of going our own way. This is a gift, Mama. Take the warning, and go the way of life!
9. It’s rewarding.
[I]n keeping them there is great reward (Ps. 19:11b).
Following God’s Word is rewarding. As we set our minds on things above (Col 3:2) and abide in Jesus (Jn. 15:4), He bears good fruit in us. Our lives become marked by godly characteristics like love and peace and self-control (Rom. 8:6; Gal. 5:22-23) rather than sin, and we experience intimacy with Jesus that we wouldn’t have had before.

I know it can feel hard to get into God’s Word. There are a thousand other things to do. And yet, I believe we can’t afford not to. We can’t afford to live a day without Jesus and His Word. Jesus is the Greatest Treasure. We need His Word, because in it, we find Him (Jn. 5:39-40).
