Going to the beach is such a fun summer activity, especially with kids! Playing in the water, playing in the sand, eating snacks on the beach, and soaking up the sun can all be wonderful, memory-making pursuits. Kids can have a blast building sandcastles, splashing their friends, and exploring a new place. Parents can enjoy getting out of the house, connecting with others, and basking in the God’s creation.

Going to the beach with kids can be fun.

But it may also feel daunting.

Today, I want to encourage you.

It doesn’t have to be overwhelming.

And here are a few tips to make it not be so.

Tips For a Successful Beach Day.

1. Go with a friend.

Going to the beach with a friend is so enjoyable. You can visit. The kids can play. And you can have a second pair of eyes and hands to make sure everyone stays safe.

2. Pack LOTS of snacks.

There’s something about going to the beach that makes you hungry! Maybe it’s the hot sun. Perhaps it’s running around and swimming. Whatever it is, tummies might get grumbly, and it’s really important to pack accordingly. Focus on protein. Think pepperoni, boiled eggs, energy bites, or cheese sticks. Then you can add in some fresh fruit and a starchy snack for good measure.

3. Bring an actual lunch.

This is something I haven’t done yet this year, but will next time I go. Bring an actual lunch. Like sandwiches.

You may very well stay over a meal time, and you can totally just embrace it!

4. Go in the morning.

Mornings are typically not as hot, and that will be to your advantage!

5. Pack some extra clothes.

This goes without saying, but you and your kids will probably get wet! So unless you’re okay to drive home in wet things, consider bringing some dry outfits.

6. Put sunscreen and hats on your kids.

I have also learned this the hard way, but you don’t want sunburns! Lather those babies up! And consider putting hats on them too!

7. Drink lots of water.

Remember to keep your kids and yourself hydrated.

8. Bring sand toys.

What kid doesn’t like playing in the sand? Bring some shovels, buckets, and trucks, and they will love it!

9. Get wet from head to toe.

On those hot days, nothing feels quite as good as getting totally drenched. Do it, Mama! You will feel so refreshed!

10. Expect to get dirty!

If you are going to a sandy beach, you and your kids will get significantly more dirty than you would other places. Embrace it. Bring some wipes. Wash off before heading to the car. It’s all part of the experience.

11. Keep a close eye on your kids.

Safety should be the number 1 priority here! Visit yes. But stay alert to your kids.

12. Leave at nap time.

Chances are your kids will probably fall asleep on the way home!

13. Have an exit plan.

When it’s time to go, think through what you need to do to get everyone ready to leave. Don’t get overwhelmed. Just take one step at a time.

Going to the beach with kids is a great way to enjoy the summer season.

Happy splashing!
