Are you expecting a baby?
If you are, you’re probably riddled with excitement and a little fear. You might be busy scouring the internet for must-have baby items. You want the best crib, the cleanest products, the safest carseat.
You are both incredibly excited and a little anxious.
What will you need? Will you prepared? Will you have what it takes to care for this precious child from God?
If that’s you, I want to say two things!
One, God uniquely chose you and will equip you to care for this child.
And two, I want to share the only 20 items you might want to include on your registry!
20 Must-Have Items
1. Diapers
It shouldn’t come as a shock that this is the first item on the list. Though not interesting, diapers are essential, and you’ll need a good stock of them. You could opt for disposable or cloth diapers, and if you’re going for disposable, I’d recommend a big box of newborn and a big box of size 1 to get you started.

2. Wipes
Almost as essential as diapers…you’ll need wipes.
They’re obviously incredibly helpful for diapers changes, but they also come in handy for wiping sticky fingers, dirty mouths, and any sort of spit up.
3. Bassinet or Crib
Unless you plan on exclusively co-sleeping, your baby will need a place to sleep. A crib or bassinet beside your bed is ideal for the first while. Though that little one may prefer to just sleep on Mommy, it will be nice to have a baby bed as an option.
4. Carseat
You will need a carseat for your little one.
Do your research on what is the safest and best seat within your price range. I recommend getting a click connect carseat that you can easily take with you on the go. That way if little one falls asleep during a trip, you can easily transport them without much disturbance.
5. Swaddle Blankets
Swaddle blankets are essential for keeping your baby warm and snug. They come in a variety of colors, patterns, and sizes.
Swaddle blankets can also double as a nursing cover and burp rag.
I love these swaddle blankets from Copper and Pearl. If you don’t mind polyester, you can buy them on Amazon here.

6. Baby Carrier
I love a good baby carrier. It’s so nice to have the option to put your baby in a carrier, so you can get tasks done or help them sleep.
While there are heftier options for older babies, newborn babies can do well in a wrap. I have the Boba Baby Wrap Carrier.
7. Jogging Stroller
Even if you’re not a jogger, having a stroller with big wheels is really handy. Whether you’re walking on a gravel road, sidewalk, or doing a little hike, this type of stroller will be very useful.
8. Baby Seat
It’s nice to have a few safe places to set your baby down if you need to. A little seat that you can move around the house with you is a great option. Your baby can watch you or play or sleep, and you can know that they’re safe and secure.
Check this seat out!
9. Unscented Castille Soap
Eventually you’ll want some gentle soap with which to wash your baby. Castille soap is a great option. Completely natural, this soap is safe and gentle on your sweet baby. You can dilute it with water and just use a little bit on their hair and body. Be very careful not to get it in their eyes.
10. Coconut Oil or Unscented Tallow
Coconut oil or unscented tallow are great moisturizers. Have a little of either of these on hand for after baths. Your baby’s skin will thank you for it.
11. Baby Hairbrush and Comb
Babies’ hair is very fine and delicate. Having a basic, baby brush will also help post bath time. A comb is useful if your baby develops cradle cap.
12. Baby Nail Clippers
As much as it makes us squeamish, babies will need nail trims every once in a while.
13. Tallow Bum Balm
Have a natural bum balm to soothe minor skin irritations or try to prevent rashes. My sister makes a really nice tallow bum balm. Check out her small business here!
14. Outdoor Clothes
If your baby will be born in the winter, they will probably need a snowsuit and toque. If they will be born in the summer, they’ll need some sort of sun hat.
15. Clothes (Onesies, Sleepers, Socks, Hats)
Now we’re on to the fun part! Your baby will need clothes!
While the cute dresses and overalls are adorable, your baby will spend most of their time in a onesie or sleeper.
And they’ll need more than a few. Depending on how often you want to do laundry, I’d recommend 8 onesies (both short and long sleeved), 6 sleepers, 5 pairs of socks, and 2-3 baby hats.
Cotton pajamas are the most versatile, but if you’re having your baby in the winter, you could throw in 2-3 fleece sleepers as well.

16. Diaper Bag
You’ll want a fairly large diaper bag. I also recommend getting one that’s cute enough to act as your main accessory. That thing is going to be coming with you everywhere for a while. It might as well be pretty. 😀
17. Soother
Whether or not your baby takes to a soother, it’s something nice to have on hand.
18. Other Feeding Supplies
Have whatever feeding supplies you think you’ll need. Perhaps a bottle, a pump, or some formula. Even if you’re planning on exclusively breastfeeding, sometimes things don’t go as planned, and it’s nice to be a little prepared.
19. Comfy Chair
It’s nice to nurse in a comfy chair. If you don’t yet have a recliner/rocker, I’d highly encourage you to invest in one!
20. Big Waterbottle
You’re going to be crazy thirsty those first weeks while nursing. Be prepared!
So there you have it! Your 20 Must-Have Baby Item Checklist! I hope this was helpful to you. And remember, more than any of these other things, your baby needs YOU. And God is with you and can equip you to be the best Mom for your little one.
