As mothers, we have a wonderful calling to disciple our children to know and follow Christ. While it’s not our job to save them, and while we are not ultimately in control of their decision to walk with God, we have the important and beautiful job of teaching them about Him.
Though my children are young, they can learn so much even now. My son’s mind and heart are like a sponge, and it amazes me how much he can remember and learn even in one day!
What better time than now to start teaching him the truth and telling Him about Christ? So many people (myself included) put their faith in Jesus at a very young age. These are formative years, and while I could feel overwhelmed about this, I instead choose to feel motivated. God is sovereign over my children’s lives and eternal salvation. God lives through me and equips me to disciple them. My job is just to be faithful.
Gospel-centered books are such a great discipleship resource. They can help spark conversations and teach important truths. I have compiled a list of our favorite Gospel-centered kids books that I hope will be helpful for you! Some of them are a little advanced but can still be used for sparking conversation.
The Fruit of the Spirit by The Daily Grace Co
The Fruit of the Spirit Board Book | TDGC – The Daily Grace Co.
While Bible storybooks can be wonderful, there seems to be fewer solid theological books. The Fruit of the Spirit by The Daily Grace Co teaches kids about the fruit of the Spirit as a whole and then breaks down each character quality. It has fun, colorful illustrations, lots of Bible verses, and teaching that kids can understand!

This one feels like a classic at this point! Sally Lloyd Jones does a wonderful job pointing every Bible story she retells back to Jesus and the Gospel. The book is fun to read, has quality pictures and reminds parents and kids who the Bible is really about – Jesus. I know we will treasure this one for years to come.
It Is Well by Harvest House Publishers and Sydney Hanson
It Is Well with My Soul: Harvest House Publishers, Hanson, Sydney: 9780736989497: Books – Amazon.ca
Beautiful and sweet, this is simply the hymn It Is Well put to pictures. Kids will love hearing their parent sing or joining along. The lyrics can then be a launching pad for conversation that no matter what happens, if they know Jesus, they will be okay.
The Gospel Story by B&H Kids Editorial Staff and Mary Wiley

This little book is rich, clearly presenting the Gospel narrative through just a few short stories. It is geared toward older kids, although I have read it to my toddler more than once. Each story ends with some reflection points for further discussion.

You and your child can anticipate Easter and all that it means with this beautiful book.
